Unganji Temple

This is another of my favourite temples, I love coming here and I often bring visitors to Japan here it is such a beautiful spot. It is near my home, maybe 30 minutes drive I guess, not far at all,  near  Mt. Yamizo,
It is a Zen temple of the Myoshinji school of Rinzaishu sect. I feel more “Zen just by going there!”
It is beautiful all year round, but Autumn is amazing.   In the Edo period, haiku poet Basho Matsuo visited this place and wrote a haiku poem while here on his journey through the interior.
Unganji Temple is called one of Japan’s four famous Zen schools. It is said to have been opened during the Daiji era around 1130
