Kyu Shiba Rikyu Garden sits right next to the busy Hamamatsucho station, but is an amazing oasis of peace in busy Tokyo. I visited this lovely park during golden week, as you walk in there is a lovely Wisteria trellis, with the lavender flowers gently blowing in the breeze.
There is a large pond in the centre of this park and small islands connected by bridges, it is a beautiful relaxing place, despite the proximity of the Yamanote line and other major train tracks. I lost myself for a few hours relaxing here one day.
It was originally a seawater pond, but now is filled with freshwater.. The garden dates back to the 1600’s and the gardens were restored in the 1970’s and opened to the public at that time
It is an officially designated as a place of scenic beauty and special historic interest by the national government.
