Japan’s only Marijuana Museum

Strangely enough there is a Marijuana museum in nearby Nasu.  I’ve seen the sign many times, but I couldn’t find it.  Anyway this weekend I finally found it, just off the main road into Nasu mountains.

Historically hemp was used in Japan to make clothing and as a fibre for  bow strings and fishing lines and was grown extensively until the occupation at the end of WW2 when it was outlawed.  Cannabis is still grown in Japan, but apparently in very limited amounts now.  The museum has all sorts of items made from the fibre and apparently stroking the hemp fibre is good for the soul.

Its all in Japanese, but anyway interesting, lots of photos and other memorablia.
